Outdoor Dog Kennel Plan

Tips for an Outdoor Dog Kennel Plan

You have gone through the article on whether to have an outdoor dog kennel or a portable dog kennel, and have decided to go for the permanent kennel.  What now?  Well if you are planning to build your dog's kennel yourself, rather than have someone to do it for you, then there are a few essential tips to follow when making up the dog kennel plan.

First of all your dog kennel plan should include enough space to allow your dog to move and run around quite freely.  Also make sure that your dog kennel plan includes a contingency plan for any emergency that may occur, like a parasite or an infectious outbreak among your dogs (obviously this will only apply if you have more than one dog, or for dog boarding kennels).

Any outdoor section should be sited away from prevailing winds.

Your outdoor dog kennel should be easy to maintain and also cost effective.

Outdoor Kennel for Boarding

If you are planning for a dog boarding kennel then you should have plenty of added space for activities such as boarding, training and groooming.  You should leave the plan open, just in case you need to expand the kennel to meet extra demand.  It is best to design the dog kennel plan to minimize any disturbances that may occur

Before actually finalising your kennel plan on paper, have a think about the daily process of raising your dogs, this is really essential is working out whether your final plan will work.  The top priority should always be the prevention of the spread of diseases.  When you are looking to curtail the spread of deseases then certain areas should be kept as far apart from each other is possible e.g you would not want to put the nursery near the area where you are nursing sick dogs.

Any areas in the kennel that you think may become contaminated should be isolated and given a separate entrance.  In your dog kennel plan, this would include areas such as observation areas, training, boarding and grooming.

Any area of your kennel that you decide to use for breeding should be kept as a clean area, and totally away from any area where contamination of any kind is even just a remote possibility.  Any area used for breeding should be kept as a clean area. They should be away from any area where contamination is even a slight possibility.

Also remember to keep the kitchen area located in a central position, so that at meal times the food is given out quickly, which will result in less barking and disturbances.
